Who can buy this policy?
Anybody can buy a World Nomads policy as long as you are a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand or are planning to travel in either Australia or New Zealand. If you are not a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand, you only need to tell us the address of the hostel or friends place that you will be staying at whilst in Australia or New Zealand.

top

Why is World Nomads cover about half the price of other travel insurance quotes?
World Nomads is only available over the Internet and the price reflects the costs savings and efficiencies of the Internet - much the same way books and music are priced lower over the Internet. World Nomads policy cover also means that you aren’t paying for cover that you don’t need - like hire car cover - and this is also reflected in the price.

top

Can I cancel my policy and get a refund?
Yes, our money back guarantee allows you to cancel your policy and claim a refund, but only if you cancel your policy within 14 days of purchase AND you haven’t departed on your journey or made any sort of claim.

Who is the Insurance Company behind World Nomads?
Your policy is provided by Allianz Australia Insurance Limited, ABN 15 000 122 850 of 2 Market Street Sydney NSW 2000, which is the insurer.

top

Can I extend my policy and is there a limit to the number of times I can extend?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of extensions, but you can’t extend your cover if your policy has expired. Once your period of cover has expired and you wish to buy another period of cover, you will have to buy a new policy and be issued with a new policy number.

What countries are covered by the policy?
Every country is covered, however you need to be aware that World Nomads, like all travel insurers, does not cover claims resulting from war. Also regarding terrorism, our policy covers medical costs, additional expenses and damage to your personal belongings, provided that the terrorism act was unexpected. Our policy does not cover the costs and deposits lost if you cancel your travel due to an act of terrorism.

You are not covered for medical expenses once you have returned to your country of residence.

top

Am I covered if I am travelling on a working holiday visa?
You are covered, but if your claim is recoverable from an employers’ workers compensation insurance or similar insurance required by the laws of the country you are working in, then this is not covered by World Nomads.

Can I still buy your cover if I am not a backpacker?
Yes you can. You need to be aware that World Nomads has been designed for the needs of the independent traveller and you should refer to the policy wording to ensure that the cover offered suits you.

top

Can I take additional cover to Include USA, Canada & Japan if original policy excluded these regions?
No. If you buy a policy excluding USA, Canada & Japan and you are going to travel to those regions, you must purchase another policy for the period that you will be in that region.

What sports does my policy cover:

  • motor cycle riding?
Yes provided you have a licence that is valid in the relevant country. You are automatically covered as a pillion passenger.
  • underwater diving?
Yes provided you hold an open water diving licence or you were diving under licensed instruction.

You are covered for reasonable cost of medical, hospital, road ambulance or other treatment you actually and necessarily receive during your trip because you suffer an injury or an illness, which first shows itself during the trip.
  • Dental treatment?
Yes, emergency treatment following an injury up to $500 costs for the relief of sudden and acute pain to healthy natural teeth.
  • Evacuation home following a serious illness or accident?
Yes, provided it is with the consent of Worldcare Assist and to your Country of Residence.

(b) Any chronic or ongoing (whether chronic or otherwise) medical or dental condition, illness or disease medically documented prior to the issue of the Policy.

Since you can only purchase your cover with a credit card, how do I know it is secure?
World Nomads uses a secure payment gateway that makes the Credit Cardtransaction directly and securely with the bank. We do not see, record or store these card details in any form, simply get approval or decline from the banking institution.

This connection through to the bank uses a 40bit encrypted SSL Web Server Certificate so that any information is encrypted or scrambled, making it impossible to intercept or steal.

More information on this can be found at http://www.thawte.com but you can be assured that your transaction is at least as safe as any other normal offline credit card transaction.

top

Can I purchase a policy if I have already left home?
Yes, provided you are a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand or intend to visit these countries in your travels.

Does your policy cover loss of cash?
No, cash is excluded. Our policy covers your personal belongings if they are stolen or damaged or misdirected by a carrier.
